Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Get BIS Certification India Launch Confirmed

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 have both received Bureau of Indian Standards certification, confirming that an India launch is imminent. The BIS certification, spotted by 91mobiles on June 10, is one of the final regulatory steps a device must pass before going on sale in India. Both devices are expected to debut at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Gets BIS Certification

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide appeared on the BIS certification website with model number SM-F971B. This is the same model number that had previously been associated with the device through other certification databases, confirming the identity of the listing.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is Samsung's new approach to the book-style foldable form factor. Where every previous Galaxy Z Fold used a tall and narrow aspect ratio for the cover screen, the Z Fold 8 Wide is rumoured to use a 4:3 aspect ratio for the inner folding display. This would make the unfolded screen feel closer to a compact square-shaped tablet, fundamentally changing how the inner display is proportioned for multitasking, app use, and media consumption.

The wider cover screen is the other significant change. Previous Galaxy Z Fold models had a narrow outer display that many users found uncomfortable for one-handed typing and day-to-day phone use. The Z Fold 8 Wide's wider cover display is intended to address this directly, making the closed phone more practical as a conventional smartphone without needing to unfold it for basic tasks.

Both Huawei and Google have already moved to wider foldable proportions in their respective devices, and Samsung's decision to offer the Z Fold 8 Wide alongside the standard Z Fold 8 gives buyers a choice between the traditional tall form factor and the new wider approach at the same launch event.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Gets BIS Certification

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 has received BIS certification with model number SM-L715F. This is the same model number that appeared on China's CMIIT certification platform earlier, with the final letter indicating the market variant. The BIS listing confirms the Watch Ultra 2 is on track for an India launch alongside the foldables.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to be Samsung's most significant smartwatch upgrade of the year. It is rumoured to be Samsung's first smartwatch with built-in 5G connectivity, which would give the watch independent cellular capability without needing to rely on a paired phone for all network tasks. The battery is tipped at 784mAh, which is larger than most current Galaxy Watch batteries.

The Watch Ultra 2 is also expected to adopt Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. This would be a departure from the Exynos W1000 chipset used in the Galaxy Watch 8 series and would bring stronger on-device AI processing capabilities alongside improved power efficiency. If confirmed, the Snapdragon Wear Elite would make the Watch Ultra 2 the most powerful Galaxy Watch processor available and a more direct competitor to the Apple Watch Ultra in raw computational terms.

Galaxy Unpacked London on July 22

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are expected to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Watch 9 series. The BIS certifications for both devices appearing on the same day confirm that Samsung is on track for India availability immediately following the global announcement, consistent with Samsung's recent practice of launching in India at or very close to the global release date.
