One UI 9 Finally Adds the Status Bar Feature Samsung Users Have Been Waiting For

Samsung Galaxy phones have long been praised for their extensive feature sets, yet one small but genuinely useful status bar addition that competing Android devices have offered for years was conspicuously absent: a live network speed indicator. One UI 9 finally closes that gap.

Samsung has pushed an update to its QuickStar Good Lock module with One UI 9 that introduces a toggle for displaying real-time internet speed directly on the status bar. Users who enable it will see upload and download speeds at a glance without opening any app or pulling down a notification shade.

Beyond network speed, this updated QuickStar version brings a second notable addition: an Ongoing Chip control. This option manages Samsung's Now Bar, a persistent strip at the bottom of the lock screen that surfaces live activities such as active calls, running timers, voice recordings, and similar real-time events. Users who prefer a cleaner interface can now switch it off entirely from within QuickStar.

One UI 9 beta is currently rolling out across Galaxy S26 devices, with Samsung preparing to extend testing to older Galaxy flagship models shortly. Alongside network speed and Now Bar controls, One UI 9 arrives with a redesigned call log, deeper quick panel customization, and improvements to Samsung DeX.
