Samsung Galaxy F-Series Gets One UI 8.5. F56, F55, F17, and F16 Now Receiving the Update

Samsung has extended its One UI 8.5 rollout to the Galaxy F-series as June got underway, continuing a massive software push that has been running since early May. As of June 1, four Galaxy F-series phones are confirmed to be receiving the stable Android 16-based One UI 8.5 update: the Galaxy F56, Galaxy F55, Galaxy F17, and Galaxy F16.

The F-series rollout follows the completion of the initial Galaxy S and Z flagship wave, the Galaxy A-series push through May, and the ongoing Galaxy M-series distribution. Samsung is clearly working through its entire active lineup in organized phases, and the F-series is now firmly in the current wave.

How to Get the Update on Your Galaxy F-Series Phone

To check whether One UI 8.5 has reached your device and region, open Settings, tap Software update, then tap Download and install. If the update is available, it will appear immediately. If nothing shows, Samsung's staged rollout has not yet reached your region checking again every day or two is the most reliable approach, as Samsung typically expands regional availability across several days per wave.

What One UI 8.5 Brings to Galaxy F-Series Phones

The Galaxy F56, F55, F17, and F16 are receiving One UI 8.5 with a tailored feature set appropriate for their hardware tier. Not every Galaxy AI feature from the Galaxy S26 series makes it to F-series devices, but the core One UI 8.5 improvements are present and meaningful.

The interface gets a fresh visual treatment with new transparency and blur effects throughout the system, giving One UI a cleaner and more modern look compared to the previous version. Animations are smoother and transition effects are more consistent across the entire UI.

Bixby receives a notable upgrade with improved natural language understanding, making it more responsive to conversational commands. A new Conversation History section has been added, letting users review previous Bixby interactions rather than losing them after each session. Perplexity integration has also been added, allowing Bixby to pull relevant information from the internet more effectively.

The Camera app gains three new film-style filters that give photos a cinematic aesthetic without requiring third-party editing apps. These filters apply a consistent tone and grain texture inspired by traditional film photography and have been a popular addition on flagship models since One UI 8.5 first rolled out.

The home screen and lock screen both receive expanded customization options. New downloadable wallpapers are available, additional clock font styles have been added to the lock screen, and automatic layout adaptation based on wallpaper content is now available for F-series users. The Weather app gains a pollen index display, and the Clock app now includes a built-in time zone converter.

Samsung Health gets additional workout statistics sharing layouts, and the Reminders app now supports early alert notifications that trigger ahead of a deadline rather than exactly at it.

What F-Series Phones Are Not Getting

Galaxy F-series devices will not receive the full Galaxy AI suite that powers features like Call Screening, Advanced Audio Eraser, and the agentic multi-step Bixby workflows available on flagship hardware. These are hardware-dependent features that require the higher-tier NPU found in Galaxy S and Z series chips. The F-series receives what Samsung calls the Awesome Intelligence feature set a curated selection of AI capabilities suited to mid-range and budget hardware rather than the complete Galaxy AI package.

Which F-Series Devices Are Next

Samsung has confirmed that more Galaxy F-series devices will receive One UI 8.5 as the rollout expands throughout June. The F56, F55, F17, and F16 are the first four to receive it, with additional models expected to follow in the coming days and weeks as Samsung stages the update across more countries and carrier variants.
