Samsung is moving through regulatory approvals for its next generation of foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has now received certification from India's Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), carrying the model number SM-F976B. This follows an earlier Bluetooth SIG certification that had already confirmed the Ultra name for this device.
BIS certification is a required regulatory step before any device can be officially sold in India. Clearing it at this stage signals that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's launch is approaching. The BIS listing itself did not disclose any hardware specifications.
A New Naming Strategy for Samsung's Foldable Lineup
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's arrival comes alongside a reported change in how Samsung is naming its foldable lineup. The shift is tied to the introduction of a wider foldable model that Samsung has not officially confirmed yet.
According to reports, Samsung may use the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra name for the traditional book-style foldable that succeeds the Galaxy Z Fold 7, while the wider new model could carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide branding. The clamshell successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to continue under the Galaxy Z Flip 8 name.
Batteries Were Certified Weeks Ago
The BIS certification for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra device itself follows an earlier round of approvals. A few weeks before this listing appeared, BIS had already certified the batteries for all the upcoming foldable models in Samsung's lineup. The device-level certifications are now beginning to follow that earlier battery certification, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are expected to appear on India's BIS certification platform in the coming weeks as well.
What Reports Say About Specs
The BIS listing provides no hardware details, but separate reports ahead of the certification have pointed to some key upgrades for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The device is reported to carry a 5,000mAh battery, which would represent a 600mAh increase over the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Charging speed is also reported to jump significantly, with 45W fast charging potentially replacing the 25W that the previous generation supported. These figures come from reports and have not been confirmed by Samsung.
London Event in July
Reports suggest Samsung could officially unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the rest of its next foldable lineup at an event in London on July 22, 2026. Samsung has not made an official announcement about this event date.
